Shoulder pain and shoulder problems
Shoulder pain and shoulder problems
The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body, which makes it prone to stiffness, tendon problems and instability. Early assessment often avoids long-term stiffness.
Dr. Shweta Vandurkar, orthopaedic surgeon in Thane, evaluates your history, examines the area, reviews imaging when needed, and explains every option clearly, starting with the least invasive that can work.

Solutions, from simple to surgical
- Rest from aggravating activity and pain-relief medicines
- Physiotherapy: stretching and rotator cuff strengthening
- Ice or heat as comfortable
- Activity modification at work and home
- Corticosteroid injection into the shoulder joint or bursa (selected cases)
- Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in selected tendon problems; evidence varies
Injections are used selectively after assessment and are one part of a wider plan.
- Avoid repeated overhead strain
- Sleep with the arm supported
- Build shoulder and upper-back strength gradually
- Warm up before sport and lifting
- Arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery. For impingement, selected rotator cuff tears and loose tissue.
- Stabilisation surgery. For repeated dislocations.
- Shoulder replacement. For advanced arthritis or complex fractures.
Where a specialised procedure is needed, Dr. Shweta will explain it clearly and, if appropriate, coordinate with the relevant specialist or hospital. Medicines and procedures are decided only after examination.
