Solutions, from simple to surgical
- Plaster casts, splints and immobilisation
- Pain-relief medicines
- Bone-health support as advised: calcium, vitamin D and nutrition
- Follow-up X-rays and physiotherapy
- Fractures are not treated mainly with injections; nerve blocks may help pain control in hospital
- Osteoporosis treatment injections in selected patients after assessment
Injections are used selectively after assessment and are one part of a wider plan.
- Fall-proof your home: lighting, non-slip mats, handrails
- Strength and balance exercises
- Adequate calcium, vitamin D and protein
- Protective gear in sports and two-wheeler riding
- Internal fixation. Plates, screws or nails to hold the bone in position.
- External fixation. A frame outside the body for severe or open injuries.
- Joint replacement for fractures. For some hip and shoulder fractures in selected patients.
Where a specialised procedure is needed, Dr. Shweta will explain it clearly and, if appropriate, coordinate with the relevant specialist or hospital. Medicines and procedures are decided only after examination.
Your questions
Not always. Some fractures need a splint, a brace or surgery, based on the fracture pattern.
Many fractures need several weeks to a few months, depending on the bone, age and health.
